˙ţTravel Tips that will Ensure a Healthy Travel Experience

from:

There are few things more uncomfortable than coming down with an illness in a strange place. To help reduce the odds that you will become ill while traveling, there are some precautions that you can take both before and during your vacation time. As with many things in life, preparation is a key in enjoyable travel that is sickness free. You can follow a few simple travel tips prior to your trip that will help to ensure a safe and healthy vacation, and some key items to include in your suitcase that will help you to resolve any health issues that may come up. At the very least, you will be able to rest assured that while you are relaxing on your vacation, you are well prepared for any problems that might arise.

Travel Tips Before you Leave

One good travel tip is to make sure that your immunizations are up to date before taking off on any type of travel, particularly if your plans include visiting a different country. While children are usually kept on a tight immunization schedule that will ensure that all of their vaccinations are up to date at any time, most adults do not follow the same protocol. If you have a question about your need for any boosters, talk to your doctor before your trip. Another good travel tip is to consult with your doctor about any preexisting medical conditions you might have, and how they could be affected by travel plans. Make sure that all of your prescriptions are up to date, and always carry your medications in their original bottles inside of your carryon bag.

On the day of your flight, wear comfortable clothing and shoes to make your travel day as convenient as possible. A good travel tip is to eat light meals during your flight especially if you are prone to motion sickness. Hydration is always a concern on airplanes, so keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during and after your trip. Another helpful travel tip is to keep eye drops and lotion handy, since the plane can cause dryness from the inside out. If conditions permit, try to get out of your seat and walk a bit every hour or two. At the very least, keep the area under the seat in front of you free, so you have room to stretch your legs during your flight.

Travel Tips upon Arrival

If you are heading to a different country, a good travel tip is to assume that any tap water is unsafe for drinking. Limit yourself to bottled and canned beverages that come in sealed containers for maximum protection. Avoid foods that can contain contaminants, like undercooked meat and seafood. Even raw vegetables and peeled fruits can be a concern, unless you wash or peel them yourself. Carry straws and disinfectant wipes with you at all times, so that you are prepared for a variety of situations. Another good travel tip is to stock up on all medications that you might need on your trip, including over the counter medicines as well as prescriptions. This will eliminate the need to purchase unfamiliar medications or visit foreign clinics for medical assistance. A few good travel tips can go a long way in healthy travel and ensuring that your next vacation goes as smoothly as possible.
